Expression of interest: Product Strategist
Portable
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Remote
We’re looking for expressions of interest for Product Strategists.
At Portable, we’re building products that improve lives. We work in areas of legal help, justice and mental health. Our clients are government agencies, nonprofits and research organisations working to solve big, systemic problems and we help them do it through product thinking, design and technology.
We’re seeking expressions of interest from experienced Product Strategists who are passionate about meaningful work. We’re looking for people who can bring fresh energy, critical thinking and practical hands-on experience to support both our internal product initiatives and the work we do with clients. This includes products in legal and justice, AI and digital tools for social impact.
We are open to considering varying engagement types (eg project-specific contracts, fixed-term contracts, permanent placements) and availability (eg part-time or full-time).
You’d be working with a team that:
Helps partners define and shape new ideas using product strategy, market research and commercial thinking
Supports the growth of existing products by clarifying vision, mapping features, defining value and building roadmaps
Leads early-stage discovery, technical feasibility and co-design with end users and stakeholders
Brings best-practice to product development by balancing user needs and organisational goals
Helps nonprofits and public sector teams find value and direction within tight budgets and complex constraints
We’re keen to connect with someone who:
Has experience in early-stage product discovery and strategy
Is confident navigating ambiguity and turning research into clear product direction
Can shape and test product-market fit and value propositions
Understands prioritisation, planning and MVP definition
Has experience working with cross-disciplinary teams and collaborating closely with designers, researchers, business analysts and engineers
Is values-aligned, curious and committed to meaningful impact
We’re particularly interested in people with experience in commercialisation, business case development, go-to-market strategies or with a strong foundation in feature mapping, product visioning and roadmap planning.
If you’d collaborated with us this month, you might have:
Scoped an early-stage MVP concept for a justice-sector AI tool
Helped define the product strategy for a new youth-focused digital resource
Supported a legal organisation to refine their service offering and translate it into a roadmap for funding
Run a prioritisation workshop to define the next phase of an internal product build
Mapped product risks, needs and opportunities across two different jurisdictions
Interested?
We welcome expressions of interest from experienced product people across a range of backgrounds, especially those from underrepresented groups.
Please:
Include a CV and a short cover letter telling us a bit about yourself and what excites you about this kind of work.
Complete the pre-application questions about your availability, the kinds of engagements you're open to, and rates/monetary expectations.
